India always stands in the first row to extract maximum benefits from its UN membership for trade agreements and defence purchases with only one word 'secularism'. It presents itself as a 'shining India' on the basis of democracy in the country. But what about the other side of this fake identity. There are the Disturbed Areas Act, Public Safety Act and the use of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) in the Indian Held Kashmir ridiculing democracy.
It has tarnished the image of not only the Indian army but India as a nation as well. The draconian act of AFSPA is a slap on the justice system. The Indian government itself, instituted Jeevan Reddy Commission to review AFSPA, which recommended the immediate scrapping of the act, but to this day, the decision is on papers only. The justification of the Indian army is that it is suspicious of Pakistan engineering a 'blow-back' of Afghanistan in Kashmir. What an excuse to kill and torture the people of Kashmir. The act allows all sorts of actions against innocent civilians. Even a non-commissioned officer is given the power to open fire if he suspects any activity. Due to this act innocent people have been brutally murdered. Thousands are in custody facing torture everyday. The hardships of the people are totally ignored and they are subjected to extreme abuses. India is ignoring domestic and international human rights voices against this black act. Is this the true face of Indian secularism, the largest democracy?
