Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Peshawar Electricity Supply Company (Pesco), Mohammad Wali has said that the power distribution company during the month of October 2011 has reduced line losses by 3 per cent, while recovery was increased by 13 per cent, as compared to the preceding period in last year.
This he stated while giving presentation on the performance of the company to the Board of Directors here in Wapda House. Chairman, Pesco, Hassam-ud Din Bangash chaired the meeting. Those who attended were included Professor Syed Imtiaz Hussein Gilani, Razi-ud-Din, Haji Mohammad Sharif, Syed Ishfaq Hussein, Nauman Wazir, Chief Engineer Operation Abdul Latif Khan, Chief Engineer Customer Services & Technical Hanan Khan, Chief Engineer Project Management Unit Malik Mohammad Sadiq Awan, Deputy General Manager Finance Anwar-ul-Haq Yousafzai and Director General (HR) Khurshed Ahmad Orakza.
He expressed his determination for further reduction in line losses and increase in recovery. He also appealed the customers for co-operation in conservation of energy and asked the illegal users of electricity to immediately remove the Kundas in the larger national interest. He said that the mutual co-operation between the company and its consumers the problems of the electricity would be resolved in a better way.
Chief Executive Pesco told that Pesco has saved Rs 300 million in purchasing of single-phase meters according to BoD directions. It was also informed that Rs 70 million savings is also being expected in purchase of distribution transformers in the coming days.
The Board of Directors hailed Pesco for reduction in line losses, increase in recovery and saving of Rs 300 million in purchase of single-phase power meters. The company secretary presented the minutes of the last BoD meeting, which was approved after detailed discussion with minor amendments. The board discussed and approved the annual accounts of the year 2010-11 and also approved development budget for the year 2011-12. It reviewed over all monthly progress of field formations and issued necessary instructions in this regard.
The board reconstituted the "Purchase & Procurement," Audit & Finance," HR" & "Strategic & planning" sub committees and decided that these sub committees will meet in 2nd week of each month and will put up their recommendations to BoD on the assigned jobs. Creating of divisions and sub divisions was also discussed and agreed in principal but directed to adjust the staff in these new sub divisions. The meeting also decided giving merit top priority in all matters.
The board also directed the company to avoid over billing at all costs, otherwise strict disciplinary action will be initiated as the increasing trend of over billings/wrong billing is badly damaging the image of the company. It instructed to activate and strengthen the existing Customer Services Centres to redress the customers' problems effectively and if required, details may be presented to establish "Call Centres" for redressal of Customers Complaints.
The board of directors instructed proposal of additional meters and transformers in all sub -divisions for the replacement of burnt meters and transformers. Due to these steps consumer's problems will be redressed efficiently. The BoD was briefed about the procedure of bulk supply in the light of SPC meeting. Pesco Compensation policy was also discussed and important decisions were made.
The board directed the management to pursue the pending arrears of flood damaging claims already sent to the government for early payment. The board directed to take all possible steps to eliminate the Kunda culture and severe steps should be taken against the people involved in illegal use of electricity. BOD was optimistic to make Pesco 'Consumer Friendly Company' for which the Pesco has to redress the public complaints at their doorsteps.
