Small & Medium Enterprises Development Authority (Smeda), under its 'Early Recovery of Flood Community Project' funded by UNDP held a daylong training course on 'Agriculture & Farming Development' at a village Mian Gujar, district Peshawar, here on Friday.
Smeda had implemented a project worth Rs 251 million for early recovery of flood affected areas of more than 30 district of the country funded by United Nation Development Programme (UNDP)", said Noor Zeba, the programme Provincial Co-ordinator, while delivering welcome speech at the opening session.
She further said that the programme also extended to worst affected 10 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and focused on three major sectors, including agriculture, livestock and craft. More than 50 small growers of different villages participated in the training course.
During the workshop, the farmers were trained about the post flood recovery and different modern methods of harvesting. The growers were informed that they were facing problem of water levelling in the remote villages, due to which vegetable, seeds and other essential crops were spoiled in the summer season.
District Officer Agriculture, Muzaffar Ali, told the participants that the government was taking effective steps to resolve problems with the assistance of non-governmental organisations and other donor agencies. Under the post flood recovery plan, he added that the farmers would be provided full support and training. Smeda Deputy General Manager, Raja Hasnain also spoke in the opening session, and explained comprehensively about the aims and objectives of the project.
