Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has said that Pakistan wants assurance from the world community about its security and sovereignty. Talking to reporters at the inaugural ceremony of 'UAE Expo 2011' at Karachi Expo Centre here on Wednesday, he said that Pakistan will not attend the Bonn Conference. Pakistan has also asked the US to vacate Shamsi Airbase by December 11, 2011.
"We would not compromise on Pakistan's security and sovereignty", he said. He reiterated that Pakistan wants good relations with the US but added that these relations should be based on mutual respect. He pointed out that Afghan President Hamid Karazi had called him and requested him to reconsider the decision to boycott the Bonn Conference. "Afghan president said that the Bonn Conference was being held for the future of Afghanistan and Pakistan's absence will not be well taken."
The Prime Minister pointed out that he had turned down the Afghan president's request to reconsider Pakistan's decision to boycott the Bonn Conference. "I have told the Afghan president that Afghan soil was used in Nato attack on Pakistani posts in which 24 Pak Army soldiers were killed. Gilani pointed out that Hamid Karzai said that the attack of Pakistani posts was done by the Nato and not by the Afghan forces.
"I asked him (Karzai) to speak with Nato and the US", the PM added. The prime minister said that Pakistan wants peace in Afghanistan and it believes that a stable and peaceful Afghanistan is in favour of Pakistan. Responding to a question, Gilani said that Pakistan had sent a letter to the US, asking it to vacate Shamsi Airbase by December 11, 2011.
