Australian shares rose 0.4 percent to a one-week high on Wednesday, as banks gained momentum and data showed record business investment in the third quarter, signalling healthy overall economic growth. Australia's new private capital expenditure rose 12.3 percent in the third quarter, beating forecasts.
The benchmark S&P/ASX 200 index rose 17.7 points to 4,119.8, according to the latest data. It rose 1.1 percent on Tuesday after dropping below 4,000 last week. Banks gained, led by a 2 percent rise in ANZ Banking Group. New Zealand's benchmark NZX 50 index gained 1 percent to 3,270.2.
