The lawyers' fraternity on Monday demanded of the government to stop fuel supply to Nato in Afghanistan on a permanent basis and get Shamsi airbase vacated from the US troops. On the call of Pakistan Bar Council and Supreme Court Bar Association, lawyers across the metropolis boycotted courts and staged protest demonstrations denouncing the unprovoked Nato air strikes at Pakistan Army's checkposts in Mohmand Agency close to Afghan border, killing 25 soldiers and wounding over a dozen.
High Court Bar Association held a general council session demanding of the government to shut the fuel supply operations permanently for the Nato forces besides getting the Shamsi airbase vacated from the US forces. They said the government should conduct relations with the US and any other country on the basis of equality. Lawyers also paid rich tributes to the martyred soldier of Pakistan Army. Representatives of Karachi Bar Association and Malir Bar Association also attended the council session. Lawyers wore black bands on their arms. Malir Bar Association also staged a demonstration, which ended at National Highway.
