The Convocation 2011 of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology (SZABIST) was held here on Saturday evening. As many as 390 graduating students were awarded degrees in management sciences, computing, socials sciences, economics and media studies.
Three academic gold medals and 74 corporate gold medals, sponsored by prestigious organisations, were also conferred on those who excelled in various disciplines.
A SZABIST statement said that the British Deputy High Commissioner in Karachi, Francis Campbell, was the chief guest at the ceremony. In his remarks on the occasion, he felicitated the graduating students and said that it was heartening to see so many young people about to cross the threshold from the academic to the professional world.
Dr A Q Mughal, the Vice-Chancellor of Sindh Agriculture University, in his address asked the graduating students to make choices that are compatible with their professional skills.
Dr Saqib Rizavi, president of the SZABIST, presented the welcome address at the ceremony. He exhorted those passing out to keep learning and also urged them to continue to upgrade their skills, learn new technologies and maintain the habit of thinking critically, analytically and creatively. Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho, Chancellor of the SZABIST, earlier declared the convocation open.
