Fertiliser making companies asked to abstain from increasing prices of urea

Pakistan Muslim League-Q leader and senior federal minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi has warned fertiliser manufacturing companies to abstain from increasing the prices of urea and the government would not allow any body to exploit the farmers. While talking to a delegation of farmers at his residence in Lahore on Friday, Elahi asked the fertiliser manufacturing factories to desist from making an increase in the retail prices of fertiliser products.
He expressed displeasure over reports that certain fertiliser manufacturers had unilaterally raised the retail prices of urea in the country. Elahi said that all fertiliser manufacturers including Dawood Hercules, AgrotTech, Engro were getting natural gas supply at lowest rates in the world and they neither had a plausible reason for raising the prices nor could they be allowed to do so. Assuring the supply of fertilisers at current prices during the Rabi season the senior federal minister said that no one could dare exploit the farmers by price inflation, hoarding and black marketing of fertilisers in the country. In order to ensure an unimpeded supply to the farmers and to plug the shortfall, he said the government had also made arrangements to import the required quantity of fertiliser.
