Major reshuffle in Sindh cabinet is on the cards and the portfolio of Planning and Development (P&D) would likely be given to Mazhar-ul-Haq, Minister for Education and Literacy, sources told Business Recorder on Friday. Sources said that Mazhar-ul-Haq, who is willing to become minister for Planning and Development. Soon after removal of Dr Qaisar Bengali, he had started efforts to get that portfolio.
Qaiser Bengali was removed on 18th July 2011, along with Zubair Motiwala to accommodate advisors of PML-Q and PML-F. Bengali had been appointed as Deputy Chairman Planning Commission with status of provincial minister. Mazhar has again geared up his efforts in this regard after re-joining of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) in PPP-led government, sources said.
They said that hi-ups of PPP have decided to make two departments of Education--one about school education, and the other about college education. Summary in this regard has also been moved to the chief minister for approval. This decision has been taken to overcome the crisis of portfolios created after rejoining of MQM, sources said. Keeping in view this situation, Mazhar has geared up his lobbying, sources said.
Sources are also of the view that MQM has emphasised to get the portfolio of Planning and Development for Raza Haroon. PML-F head Pir Pagara has refused to back the portfolios of his party ministers and advisors and asked PPP to get sacrifice of their ministers in this regard. Sources said that PPP could take the decision of removal of its ministers in order to adjust the ministers of MQM.
It is to be noted that MQM ministers Raza Haroon, Faisal Sabzwari, Dr Mohammad Ali Shah, Abdul Haseeb, Mohammad Afzal and Zubair Ahmed Khan are waiting for their portfolios because said departments had been given to the ministers and advisors of PML-f and PML-Q soon after the quitting of MQM from the PPP-led government. the cards.
