NAB chief's appointment: Supreme Court dismisses government review petition seeking more time

The Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed a review petition filed by the government seeking more time to appoint Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB). A two-member bench of Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk and Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali was hearing the petition titled Federation of Pakistan, etc versus Al-Jehad Trust through Rais-ul-Mujahideen and others.
During the course of hearing, Additional Attorney General K K Agha submitted before the bench that government was focusing on national security in the present scenario in the country, therefore, appointment of chairman NAB was delayed. Agha sought more time to appoint the NAB head.
He further contended that the review petition of Justice Deedar Hussain (Retd) appointment was pending before the SC which decision may be in his favour so it would have been better if the court decide the review petition at first. The bench turned down the request and observed that more time can not be given in appointing Chairman NAB, adding that the Bureau has become dysfunctional in the absence of NAB chairman.
