Young doctors association (YDA) Pakistan office-bearers have alleged that police have failed to provide security to the nine teaching hospitals in the city despite clear directions from the Inspector General Punjab Police. As 16000 police constables out of 24000 constables reserved for the Lahore city have been deputed to provide security to the retired government servants and other VVIP's.
Young doctors association Pakistan has said only 36 constables of police are required to provide security to the government hospitals of Lahore, which are daily visited by 25000 patients and 5000 doctors are working in them round the clock but the police department officials are unable to spare 36 constables out of 8000 available with them to provide security to the government teaching hospitals. Young Doctors Association Central Office Bearers Dr Rana Sohail, Dr Salman Kazmi, Dr Talha Sherwani, Dr Khuda Baksh, Dr Ghulam Qasim, Dr Arshad Saehri, Dr Kashif Basher, Dr Ali Khawaja, Dr Khawar Ali have concluded that security of doctors and patients don't seem to be a priority for the Punjab police.
Young doctors have further added that unfortunately the trends of physical manhandling of female doctors on duty and later strikes in the emergency wards are becoming a routine practice leading to suffering to thousands of patients who are denied treatment during the period.
Young doctors have appealed to the Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif, Inspector General Punjab Police Javed Iqbal to intervene and direct the CCPO Lahore to withdraw security from less important places and provide security to the doctors on duty and patients in nine teaching hospitals.
