Senior Minister of Sindh, Pir Mazhar-ul-Haq has warned officials that no complacency or negligence would be tolerated in the ongoing relief for flood victims. Talking to journalists prior to his departure for Dadu, on Sunday, he said different districts of the province, including Dadu have been severely affected due to rains.
"The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) government committed to the cause of public well-being is making all out efforts for the relief of people affected by torrential rains," he said. The Minister said efforts are underway for timely assistance and rehabilitation of the rain victims with due consideration that no negligence is allowed on the part of those assigned the responsibility to handle the situation.
In reply to a question, he said Dadu is one of the most affected district and heavy loss has been born by the residents of the area as they have not only been rendered shelterless but also had their standing crops totally damaged.
"I am leaving for Dadu to personally supervise the relief and consequent rehabilitation work," said Pir Mazhar-ul-Haq. He said a plan is already in application to de-water the inundated lands and this, he said, was underway, under his direct supervision.
"I had come to Karachi to attend an important provincial cabinet meeting about reassessment of loss caused due to rains and to review relief strategy," said the Minister.
He said the provincial government is fully conscious of the public needs and while ensuring provision for tents and dry food items for Dadu and other affected districts.
In reply to another question, he said the economy of Dadu district has been severely affected and all concerned departments and officials have been put on high alert so as to minimise the public sufferings. He urged all politicians and workers of every political party, claiming to be sympathetic to the masses, to realise their responsibility and help PPP government in its rain and flood relief activities.
