Mirza's salvo

Minister Mirza, now with the Holy Book over his head, and his fellow Minister Malik have escalated the ante in their little un-funny Laurel and Hardy mutual pot-shot act. What one is watching on the visual media could well be described as the pot throwing hot, black, frying pans at the kettle!
Among his less explosive verbosities Mirza claimed that he could solve Karachi's problems in 15 days if 'compulsive liar' Malik is locked away for that time. Most of us would totally agree with parts of that premise. If this is being done purely for the edification of, the now ostensibly resigned, Mirza or his handlers then the grand plan for further chaos may well succeed.
However, if this is to be done for my benefit and that of the poor citizens of this hapless country so that we may restore our Freedoms, the Rule of Law and the Principles of Sovereign Nationhood as envisaged by Jinnah and for which our forebears gave much sacrifice then it has already miserably failed. As Proverbs 11:29 quoted in the film of that name, "He that troubleth his own house shall Inherit the Wind." We now await the hurricane that must follow.
Yet, that Pakistan can still be achieved. If both these good gentlemen along with some 300 assorted and easily identifiable worthies across our politico-religious spectrum are incarcerated permanently, or better, all our problems can be over. These people, individually and collectively with the lackeys they control, are responsible for the nightmare that poor Jinnah's vision has turned out to be.
The age old question remains: can the cat still be belled? Forty plus years of military adventurism has led us here and has proved that another unilateral take-over is not the answer. The Supreme Court is meeting in Karachi to determine why gunny bags are back in great demand. No rocket science or great brain storming needed to figure that out! What we require is a few good men and true among the Supreme Court and those generals who are willing to profess allegiance to the Pakistan that Jinnah created with their ancestral blood. Now is the time for those two pillars of state to work together within the Constitution and the exigencies of the reality around us. The good people of Pakistan will be with them and 15 days is adequate to stop poor Jinnah from spinning in his grave. Can we hope for a Mubarak Eid?"
