The country's import of mobile phones posted 26 percent increase during July this fiscal year as compared to the cell phones import during the same period of the last fiscal year, according to official statistics. "New brands with touch screen applications at low cost have allured the buyers to have such dynamic handsets for use of internet, pictures and music," said importers, adding the demand particularly the Chinese sets had increased in the country.
The country's import of mobile phones was $49 million during July 2011 as compared to the handset's import of $39 million during July 2010, showing an increase of $10 million or 26.29 percent, according to the statistics. In June 2011, the country imported $44 million of mobile handsets up by $5 million or 10.15 percent as compared to the cell phones import during July 2011.
Importers said there was a likely growth in the cellular phones use at local level as global trends continued to change and increased demands for almost all sections of the society. They said the academia, media, financial and business sectors were likely to post huge demand for the new handsets enabling them to perform their jobs easily with new applications as global market went ahead of 3G services.
