Bhatta Mafia threatens medicine market shopkeepers: Malik's warnings remain futile

All warnings of interior minister Rehman Malik to the extortionists remained futile as a group of Bhatta Mafia, roaming fearlessly at the city's biggest medicine market, threatened the shopkeepers for dire consequences in case they refused to pay Bhatta.
Following the said incident, hundreds of the shopkeepers of medicine market marched towards SM Law College where they burnt tyres and chanted slogans against the LEAs. The demonstrators, who raised questions on the performance of the LEAs, alleged the LEAs for its failure to maintain peace in Karachi. They said that although the business fraternity is facing severe security and business challenges, the authority concerned is still ineffective to evolve comprehensive strategy to deal the wrongdoers with iron hands.
They said the businessmen, who already down in the dumps because of unfriendly government polices, are now facing serious life-threats from the criminal but the authority concerned is not paying any heed on this matter to secure their lives and businesses. Meanwhile, SHO Aram Bagh Waheed Ahmad Khan said the department has assured them to provide complete security to avert such incidents in future.
