A PPP leader and former President Supreme Court Bar Association, Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan said Karachi is the hub of economic activities, hence the demand of calling army there to restore peace is not unconstitutional. Talking to media men here in the bar premises, Aitzaz said civil authorities could be called to control the specific areas and it had to perform its duty under the civilians.
Although political parties are not involved in terrorist activities in the Karachi however some parties are backing the terrorists for their ulterior motives and turned the city a 'no go' area, he added. He said that a big area in Karachi is in the control of terrorists. He also said that MQM could control the present situation in the port city.
He clarified that people of different nations and races living in Karachi are not involved in terrorism and they are loyal and always contribute for the betterment of the economic situation of the country.
The PPP leader observed that the present situation in Karachi is not new as such was witnessed during 1987 and 1990 also. He said the government neither could be blame nor responsible alone for this situation and hence acquittal of government is not a justified demand.
He, however, said some officials could be transferred or removed from their present posts for the sack of the national interest but government could not be outs for this. He warned that the situation in Karachi is very serious and all political parties and different sections of the society should perform their due role to prevail peace and prosperity in the city and the country.
