On the call of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) mourning day was observed against recent bloodshed in the city which it termed genocide of Mohajir community. MQM activists clad in black and hoisted black flags on their buildings and squares as a sign of mourning besides all markets, educational institutions and gas stations remained closed in Karachi and interior Sindh.
Public transport remained off the roads, and Karachi Industrial Zone, petrol and CNG stations across the city were also closed. Meanwhile, Chief Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) Altaf Hussain has expressed his sincere gratitude to the shopkeepers, small traders, industrialists, transporters, scholars, political and religious parties and public at large in Karachi and other parts of the country for taking part in the peaceful day of mourning called by the MQM to protest against the massacre of innocent citizens in Karachi.
He thanked trade organisations, chambers of commerce, industrial, transport and market associations of Karachi, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Sukkur, and other parts of Sindh for their wholehearted response to the appeal for observing the day of mourning called by the MQM against the horrific killings of innocent citizens and rampant terrorism in Karachi.
Hussain also thanked all the political and religious organisations, members of the civil society, lawyers' organisations, scholars of various schools of thought, and people from different spheres of life that joined hands with the MQM in observing the day of mourning.
Hussain said that the people have proven they were united against ruthless killers, extortionists and those cruel elements which incite violence and mayhem for their wicked objectives, by taking observing a day of mourning against slaughter of innocent people and terrorism in Karachi. Hussain also praised the workers of the MQM throughout the country for making the mourning day a success.
