Life comes to a standstill in Karachi: complete strike by goods vehicles, passenger buses

The city on Tuesday observed a 'day of mourning' on the call of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) against the killings of dozens of innocent Karachiites on ethnic grounds. Complete shutter-down was witnessed in Karachi and several others cities of Sindh including Hyderabad, Nawabshah, Mirpurkhas, Tando Allahyar, etc, where life came to a standstill on the call of MQM.
The wave of upheaval gripped the country's financial hub where life was suspended since the announcement of MQM regarding mourning day was aired by different news channels. The associations of Karachi transporters, petroleum dealers, etc had extended their support on the call of MQM for a day of mourning against what MQM said "the genocide of Mohajirs".
Consequently, all petrol pumps, shops in inner lanes, cabins, hotels, etc across the metropolis remained closed since dawn to dusk while public transport was also off the roads, which forced the people to stay indoors. The city wore a deserted look and fell into a strong grip of heartache where black flags were displayed at almost every area of the city. School, colleges and universities were closed. Although no major untoward incident was reported till filing of this story, the attendance in private and public enterprises remained thin.
The inhabitants of Gulistan Jauhar staged protest demonstration against the killings of Karachiities on ethnic ground. The protesters, who wore black bands and displayed black flags, burnt tyres and chanted slogans against this lawlessness. Meanwhile, the reports of aerial firing were also received from Gulshan Iqbal, Gulistan Jauhar, Malir, Landhi, Mausumyaat, Saddar, etc. In the absence of goods carriers the import cargo could not leave the port area and similarly no export cargo could reach the ports as transporters were reluctant to ply their vehicles on city's roads.
