A group of citizens comprising, among others, noted jurist Fakhruddin G. Ebrahim, lawyer Iqbal Haider and human rights activist Mahnaz Rahman have staged a protest demonstration against the bloodshed in the city of teeming millions.
Holding placards and banners from the platform of Karachi Concerned Citizens Forum outside Karachi Press Club, the protesters demanded, inter alia, security to the beleaguered citizens and imposition of a complete ban on the display of firearms. They also asked the political parties' leadership to ensure that their workers are restrained from any form of criminal violence.
These and other demands made by this forum need government authorities' and political parties' attention. There was absolute mayhem in the economic and commercial hub of the country. it is heartening see the determination of the city of the Quaid. This city of the 20 million has started limping back to normality as the brutal trend of gunny bags-stuffed bodies following brief kidnappings and torture is said to have come to a halt.
