President Asif Ali Zardari is likely to inaugurate Zulfiqarabad Expressway in the last week of August, or in the first week of September 2011, Business Recorder learnt on Saturday. The proposed mega city Zulifqarabad would be spread over Keti Bunder, Kharo Chhan, Jati and Shah Bunder Taulkas of Thatta district on both sides of River Indus.
Approximately, 3,28,000 acres of land, earmarked for the city, has been handed over to the ZDA. Officials of Zulifqarabad Development Authority (ZDA) have informed the Presidency, through Sindh government, about completion of arrangements in this regard and sought President Zardari's time for inauguration, sources said. With the inauguration, the construction of the Zulfiqarabad expressway from coastal town of Dhandhari to Garho would be taken up, sources added.
Meanwhile, the work on Gharo to Keti Bandar coastal highway would also be resumed very soon. The Zulifqarabad Development Authority (ZDA) had approached the federal government for release of Rs 2 billion in this regard, sources said. They said that the four committees comprising officials of the settlement and survey, land record and revenue departments have reviewed the land survey and prepare a report to avoid any litigation. The said report has been submitted to Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah and others for further study, sources added.
