The Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) chief, Syed Munawar Hasan, has urged the nation to demonstrate complete solidarity with the people of Karachi to foil international conspiracies against the country. Speaking with newspaper editors and senior columnists at an Iftar Dinner hosted at Mansoora on Saturday, the JI chief said that PPP, MQM and ANP have converted Karachi into a battlefield in which innocent people are being killed every day.
He said that Sindh government reversed its decision regarding Commissionerate System within a month thereby clearing the way for extortionists and target killers. He said the PPP government had to take bold decisions to bring the Karachi situation under control, otherwise, whole country would suffer. He, however, said if military operation had been the solution, the entire nation would have supported it. Munawwar said that the MQM and the international mafia are active in Karachi and neither could operate independently.
The mafia could not achieve its heinous designs in Karachi without MQM's support. He alleged that MQM has freed scores of hardened criminals from prisons and inducted them in the police and these people were protecting fellow criminals. He opined that if the government opens all cases against MQM, situation would be under control. He observed that media has paid a high price for bringing to light real facts but government has failed to protect the media men. He asserted that peace and normalcy could not be restored in the port city without ending the atmosphere of terror and insecurity.
