The members of Balochistan Assembly on Friday demanded army operation in Karachi to stop killing of innocent people and to provide protection to life and property of the masses. The assembly session started with Speaker Muhammad Aslam Bhootani in the chair about one hour late against its schedule.
Speaking on a point of order, Minister Abdul Wasey, JUI) parliamentary leader, said that over 37 innocent persons had been murdered in Karachi during the last 12 hours, and added that labourers, daily wagers, pushcart owners and other innocent people were being killed in Karachi. He demanded a political solution of the law and order situation in Karachi. He condemned killing of Zubair, son of Hussain Ahmed Sharodi.
Minister for Revenue and Awami National Party (ANP) leader Engr Zamarak Khan Piralizai alleged that a specific extortionist group was killing innocent people in Karachi in order to set its terror in the city and get some political mileage. He said that army should be called out in Karachi to secure peace and provide protection to the people.
PML-Q MPA Jaffar Mandokhail said that the federal government would have to take immediate steps to end unrest and lawlessness in Karachi. He demanded handing over Karachi to the army for six months, empowering it with all powers pertaining to law and order. Minister for Industries Ahsan Shah blamed that a specific group was responsible for target killing and unrest in the economic hub of the country.
Minister for Sports Shahnawaz Marri said that innocent labourers of KP, Baloch and Punjabis were being killed in Karachi. He said Balochistan was also suffering from law and order situation as daily innocent people were being kidnapped for ransom or killed.
Minister for Youth Affairs (PML-N) Abdul Khaliq Achakzai said it was clear that who was behind target killing of innocent people and extortion in Karachi. He said that 100 innocent persons were killed in Karachi when an MPA was gunned down there some time back. He demanded army operation in Karachi against anti-state elements.
Minister for Mines and Minerals Abdul Rehman Mengal demanded of the federal government to launch army operation in Karachi without any further delay. He said that political parties had got their activists recruited in Karachi police and they were not playing their due role for ensuring peace. He said that the army should be given task to clear Karachi of weapons besides maintaining law and order.
Speaker Bhootani gave the ruling that in consultation with the Leader of House, all parliamentary parties in Balochistan Assembly should form a delegation to convey their reservations on grievances of people of Balochistan living in Karachi to earn their livelihood.
Responding to the ruling, Minister Abdul Wasey and Minister Ahsan Shah said a delegation of provincial parliamentary parties would be constituted to call on the Sindh Governor, Chief Minister and other authorities of the Sindh government to urge them to ensure end to target killing of labourers of Balochistan in Karachi. Later, the House was adjourned for one hour for offering Friday prayers.
