Come September, 2011

Never a dull moment in the long-running PakCricket saga. In the last few years, moments to savour - few and far apart while moments damaging the game's image here very frequent. Come September 2011, another ugly-entertaining episode is in the making. It has been launched with a verbal salvo, resembling a challenge, fired by a 'fair & lovely' egoistic cricket ball-biter.
His target, a troup of clowns headed by an equally if not more egoistic somersaulting 'spit & lick' Head Jester who seems to not know his own best-by date. His clownish u-turns have been a fillip to player-power. It will be a sad spectacle to see PakCricket Board's authority being questioned, again. The salvo-launcher seems emboldened by the bumbling incompetency of the jokers manning the Board. A player under a contract with them who, as recently as last year, was found to have committed serious enough breaches of discipline to be imposed with a heavy fine was later not only pardoned but was awarded with the captaincy. It is but natural, the 'fair & lovely' ego sky-rocketed seeing that the High Jester of the Board can do him no disciplining.
Saga scriptwriters already busy with the finalising the storyline. Lead actors have already cast themselves, though not certain who will play the villain. Inside sources reveal that one of the characters may even typify Maula-Jat type scenes though wearing designer lawns. However script being penned under supervision of expert nincompoops who maybe plan, going by their past, to run an act expressing a gamut of emotions from taxing the intelligence of the public to making themselves again, the laughing-stock of the cricket world.
Interludes may see an assortment of jokers coming and going acting out their own funny nonsensical acts. Locales being scouted with Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore finalised. Stages and props being planned. Promos may well be aired soon. Get ready as this has the potential to be an another great farcical comedy in the saga and promoters mulling if the final scenes can be penned as a last act for one of the lead characters. Odds being given who has the last laugh.
I digress. Come September was a great comedy film starring Rock Hudson & Gina Lollobrigada. Though produced in 1961, it was exhibited here in the early 1970's and if memory serves me right, at the Rio Cinema, Karachi (sadly, the cinema is no more). The movie had a pleasant end with a good soundtrack.
However, coming back to PakCricket, the scenario likely to develop does not hold any prospect of a happy end. Unfortunately, all concerned least bothered that internationally it will further damage PakCricket, not that the current High Jester has left much to be destroyed further.
It is hoped saner elements intervene to pre-empt the developing situation which if happens, will inflict further injury to the already limping image of PakCricket. An option worth considering would be to put the two lead characters and the Board's assorted jokers out to pasture in environs far removed from this supposedly gentlemens' game. An unwarranted suggestion should the act be played out; cricket-loving public may be well-advised not to unduly tax their minds as these characters seem hell-bent on further insulting their sensibilities.
