Karachi Water and Sewerage Board has taken a notice of lifting Reti Bajri (sand and silt) through blasting on its lands that may cause damage to underground installations in Pipri and Hub area by a local company. In this regard, Board has written a letter to the Department of Mines and Mineral Development to apprise the situation and requested to take action against the company lifting the sand and silt from the area not allowed.
The Board has requested the Mines and Mineral Department to cancel the licence of the company. Managing Director of the KW&SB Misbahuddin Farid in his letter informing the situation to the Mines and Mines Department about this unlawful activity has said that the reti bajri were placed there to cover the water supply lines and conduits for their protection. The system requires that water supply lines are covered and not to be visible so that they can be saved from any damage.
He said the blasting and digging could cause damage to the underground waterlines of the KW&SB and it may also affect the main water supply lines and conduit. In this regard the KW&SB has also sought co-operation of the provincial Home Department. Concerned officials of the water board along with the officials of Mineral Department also inspected such affected sites.-PR
