A high-level meeting of the committee formed by Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani for resolving the energy sector issues was held under the chairmanship of the Finance Minister. Members of the committee include Ministers of Water and Power, Petroleum and Natural Resources, Deputy Chairman Planning Commission and Governor State Bank.
Representatives from the Ministry of Water and Power, Planning Commission, Nepra and Economic Reform Unit (ERU) attended the meeting to review the energy crisis being faced by the country. Issues related to the liquidity of the energy sector, circular debt, KESC, full cost recovery, corporate governance, Nepra''s enhanced role, IPPs payables, tariff issues and payables and receivables of power sector were discussed in detail.
For a more focused approach, the committee discussed categorisation of the issues of the power sector. It was decided that a detailed action plan would be formulated for resolving the issues confronting the sector. The issues are complex and require deliberation and it was decided to deal with all the issues in sequence on a daily basis. The next session of the meeting will be held on August 10 with a more narrowed down approach on the issues haunting the power sector with short, medium and long term solutions for them.-PR
