With a view to supervising the arrangements regarding control of dengue fever, the Punjab government has assigned duties to the Directors of Health in as many as 10 towns of Lahore. The Directors of Health will work in collaboration with City District Government and will check mosquito growth and anti-mosquito spray in as many as 10 towns of Lahore and submit monitoring report to the Secretary, Health, on daily basis.
Punjab Health Secretary Mohammad Jehanzeb Khan on Wednesday chaired a meeting here to review the arrangements for prevention and treatment of dengue fever. Special Secretary Health, Waseem Mukhtar, Additional Secretary Technical Dr Mushtaq Ahmad Sulehrya, D.G, Health, Dr Aslam Chaudhry, Deputy Secretary, Saleha Saeed, Director CDC, Dr Mubashar Malik and the Directors of all towns of Lahore attended the meeting.
The town directors presented their inspection reports which showed that stagnant water pools found in all towns, heaps of garbage/solid waste were also found in streets. Moreover, water leakage of supply pipes was found occasionally at some places, which are safe havens for mosquito growth. The meeting was informed that 'Health Education Campaign' has been started by the government and banners were displayed in the Ramadan bazaars.
Jehanzeb Khan also convened a special meeting on August 4 in which the Medical Superintendents of all Teaching Hospitals in Lahore, EDO Health Lahore, Director Institute of Blood Transfusion, Bacteriologist to Government of Punjab and all the provincial monitors of the department would attend the meeting. The meeting would review provision of diagnostic facilities like ELISA and PCR at all teaching & DHQ hospitals, establishment of isolation wards in all teaching hospitals and separate desk for dengue fever cases and arrangements of cell separators. It was decided that all provincial monitors will visit the allocated areas to monitor the control and prevention activities against dengue fever and rectification of gaps identified.
