Probes conducted into Benazir case: Supreme Court orders production of all records in two weeks

The Supreme Court on Monday sought complete record of investigations carried out by various national and international probe teams in Benazir Bhutto assassination case, with the directive to the Attorney General to place it before the court within two weeks.
A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was hearing a petition moved on July 25 by Muhammad Aslam, protocol officer of Benazir Bhutto, seeking to register case against Pervez Musharraf and 12 other top politicians for Benazir's assassination. The Attorney General was also directed to submit investigation and inquiry reports of Scotland Yard, United Nations commission and local probing teams pertaining to the case before the court within two weeks.
The CJP observed that Benazir Bhutto was a great leader and why nobody took interest to bring to light her assassins, and added that it was the height of brutality that a leader of high calibre was executed in broad daylight. The CJP said that a number of judicial commissions were constituted on different issues but why a judicial commission is not announced to probe the grave incident of Benazir Bhutto killing so far, adding that a criminal inquiry was mandatory in the case.
The Court inquired from AGP the status of Scotland Yard and UN commission's recommendations implementation in Benazir Bhutto case, adding that the SC would constitute a larger bench to hear the case due to its importance. He added that many aspects were also disclosed in UN Commission report. However, the Court can not throw the present application in the dustbin.
It is worth mentioning that Muhammad Aslam, protocol officer of Benazir Bhutto, on July 25 filed the petition in SC against dismissal of his petition by the LHC under Article 185(3) of the constitution. General retired Pervez Musharraf, former President, Rehman Malik Interior Minister, Pervez Elahi former Punjab Chief Minister, former law minister Babar Awan, Ejaz Shah former DG Intelligence Bureau, former caretaker interior minister Hamid Nawaz, Interior Secretary Kamal Shah, former spokesman of Interior Ministry, Javed Iqbal Cheema and others were made respondents. The hearing was adjourned sine die.
