THE RUPEE: all-round fall

Persisting demand for dollars pushed the rupee down on the currency market on Tuesday in process of trading, dealers said. The rupee extended its decline, falling by four paisa for buying at 86.38 and shed five paisa for selling at 86.42, they said.
INTERBANK MARKET RATES: In the second Asian trade dollar hit a record low against the Swiss franc and a four-month trough versus the yen, as investors were sceptical that US President Barack Obama's call for compromise would lead to a swift breakthrough in deadlocked debt talks.
There was broad pressure on the greenback, with the New Zealand dollar climbing to a post-float high, the Australian dollar hitting a three-month peak, while euro extended its gains versus dollar after breaching chart resistance.
The yuan closed up against dollar after hitting a record trading high as the People's Bank of China set its mid-point at an all-time high after the dollar index sank to a seven-week low.
Indian rupee was tradubg at Rs 44.40 versus dollar and Malaysian ringgit was available at 2.9620 in terms of the greenback. Interbank buy/sell rates for taka against dollar on Tuesday: 74.62/74.69 (previous 74.65/74.70) Call Money Rates: 8.00-12.00 percent (previous 6.00-12.00 percent).
OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee failed to retain its gains, shedding five paisa for buying at 86.15 and lost 15 paisa for selling at 86.25, they added. The rupee also dropped by 92 paisa in terms of euro for buying and selling at Rs 124.26 and Rs 124.76, they said.

RUPEE IN LAHORE: The rupee remained unchanged against dollar at Lahore currency market on Tuesday.
According to dealers, the dollar was traded at overnight Rs 86.00 and Rs 86.20 as buying and selling rates, respectively.
However, the rupee declined against British pound. The pound's buying and selling rates were increased to Rs 140.00 and Rs 140.60 from Monday's Rs 139.60 and Rs 140.20, respectively, dealers said.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The rupee-dollar parity remained unchanged at the currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi on Tuesday.
The dollar opened at Rs 86.00 (buying) and Rs 86.30 (selling) against same last rates. It did not observe further change in the second session and closed at Rs 86.00 (buying) and Rs 86.30 (selling).
Pound sterling opened at Rs 138.30 (buying) and Rs 138.45 (selling) against same overnight values. It did not observe further change in the last trading hours and closed at Rs 138.30 (buying) and Rs 138.45 (selling).
