Renowned Pashto singer, Aasma Lata has denied the allegations of spying for Indian Intelligence agency levelled against her by a local newspaper and described them totally baseless. Speaking at a news conference at Peshawar Press Club (PPC), she said that she came to know a day after the news was published.
The allegations were made to defame her growing popularity, she added. "I am a Pakistani citizen and belong to Dina, district Jehlum of Punjab," she said. Lata explained that she belongs to a very poor family, but her popularity and fame involved a long struggle and hard work.
"I don't know who is behind this game. I will take legal action against those levelled allegations against me," she said. I was not an ordinary issue, but a complex and sensitive issue, she added. Lata said that the allegations against her, are completely baseless. Showing copies of her Passport and CNIC to media men, she said that there was no doubt about her citizenship, saying that she grew up in Punjab, Pakistan.
When asked about her visits to India, she said that she visited India three times. She also visited United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates (UAE), United States, and Canada. To another query, she responded that she was not interrogated or detained by police.
