Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) as a first step of combined opposition in the parliament, on Friday submitted joint requisition for National Assembly and Senate sessions on Karachi violence, non-implementation of Supreme Court orders and alleged rigging in the recent Azad Jammu and Kashmir elections.
According to PML-N media co-co-ordinator Asim Khan Niazi, the requisition submitted to National Assembly on the pressing national issues has been singed by 91 members of the PML-N and 12 lawmakers belonging to MQM urging immediate summoning of the Lower House to discuss Karachi situation besides other important issues.
A similar joint requisition was also submitted to Senate signed by 33 senators belonging to various political parties that stated "We thirty three members of the Senate of Pakistan whose signatures are appended herewith do hereby requisition under clause (3) of Article 54 read with Article 61 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, a session of the Senate of Pakistan to discuss the following issues;-(i) Karachi recent violence and general law and order situation, (ii) Non-implementation of orders of the superior courts by the executive and (iii) Massive rigging and misuse of Federal Government resources in the recent AJK election. The requisition was filed by PML-N Senator Ishaq Dar and MQM Senator Tahir Hussain Mashadi.
According to the rules Speaker National Assembly and Chairman Senate are bound to summon the sessions of the respective houses within 14 days of filing of the requisitions. Meanwhile, PML-N has also submitted adjournment motion in the National Assembly to discuss the Karachi violence in the Lower House. The motion stated that the incidents of target killing continued in Karachi for the last many days resulting in killings of innocent civilians. It further said that Karachi is the country's financial hub and the government has completely failed to restore law and order in the city.
