The Punjab government has planned to launch 'Punjab Ambulance Service' in the province and asked Director General Health Punjab to prepare a feasibility report. Secretary Health Punjab, Mohammad Jehanzeb Khan said while presiding over a meeting held on Thursday to review the performance of hospitals and the pace of implementation of health projects in Dera Ghazi Khan.
Special Secretary Health, Wasim Mukhtar, Addl. Secretary Health (Establishment) Daud Muhammad Khan, Addl. Secretary Health (Admn.) Khursheed Zaidi, Addl. Secretary Development, Moazzam Usman, Director General Health Punjab, Dr Muhammad Aslam Chaudhry, Deputy Secretary, Saleha Saeed, Director HIMS, Dr Anwar Janjua, EDO Health, Dera Ghazi Khan and medical superintendents of DHQs and THQs hospitals were present in the meeting.
The secretary health said that it was being planned to launch Punjab Ambulance Service in the province. The meeting was informed that construction of building of paramedical school is in the final stage and a sum of Rs 15 million has been spent for this purpose.
The secretary health directed that classes should be started in the paramedical school from September 2011. He also issued instructions for launching the classes in the building of DHDC till the completion of the new building.
The meeting also reviewed the matters regarding upgradation of THQ hospital Taunsa Sharif, setting up of trauma centre at DHQ hospital DG Khan, provision of missing facilities in Rural Health Centres, construction of General Nursing and Midwifery School, supply of sui gas to THQ hospital Taunsa Sharif, upgradation of Basic Health Centre Kala to RHC level and routine immunisation of mother and child and polio coverage.
The meeting was informed that the construction of general nursing and midwifery school would be completed by September 2011 while a sum of over Rs 15 million have been spent on the provision of missing facilities in Rural Health Centres. Similarly, BHU Kala is being upgraded to the level of RHC at a cost of Rs 18.5 million while construction of Trauma Centre at DHQ hospital has been completed. An amount of Rs 190 million has been spent on the centre where modern diagnostic facilities will be available to the patients.
The recruitment of staff for the Trauma Centre has been started. The secretary health directed that anti-mosquito spray should be started in all districts to check the breeding of mosquitoes due to rainy season and controlling dengue and malaria fever.
