Seven more people fell prey to targeted killings on Wednesday morning, taking the death toll to 33 in the recent wave of violence in the last three days in Karachi, police said. In the first incident, five bodies of men were recovered from a coach of route number D-7 bearing registration number JE-9027 near Nipa Chowrangi in the limits of Gulshan-e-Iqbal police station.
A duty officer at the station, Sub Inspector Ishtiaq, said the police recovered five bodies from a coach near Nipa Chorangi area at around 6 in the morning. The bodies were shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center for medico-legal formalities. The victims include driver of the coach Ahmed January 25; Ghulam January 25; Muhammed Wali, 34. The deceased originally hailed from Bajaur Agency of Fata.
In another incident, an activist of Awami National Party was shot dead in Baldia Town, police and party sources said. Area police said they found the body of Nasir Hussain, son of Bashir Hussain, near Northern Bypass in Baldia Town area. It was shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) for autopsy. Spokesman of ANP confirmed the victim belonged to his party and was the vice president of Rasheedabad area.
In yet another incident, a man identified as Naresh was killed in a firing incident near Aath Chowk in the limits of Kalakot police station, police said. They said unidentified gunmen opened fire near Aath Chowk. Resultantly, Naresh received bullet injuries and died on the spot. The body was shifted to CHK for autopsy.
Ten people received bullet injuries in various parts of Orangi Town. They were identified as Imran, Kamran, Ayaz, Jahangir, Muhammed Shah, Agha Khan, Abbas, Shakir, Qasim while one remained unidentified. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has ordered directives to IG Sindh and CCPO Karachi to take notice of the panic and lawlessness in the metropolis.
Earlier in the day, two armed gangs encountered at Hussan Square locality whereby eyewitnesses said the outlaws exchanged heavy firing, resultantly, injuring three people, which triggered panic as angry mob pelted stones at buses and vehicles near Old Sabzi Mandi following the incident. A number of Karachiites said police and rangers had failed to ensure peace and security to people in the city. In the latest development, pillion riding in the city has been banned for an indefinite period. Sindh Home Department issued the notification regarding the ban, which will be effective from 12 midnight on Wednesday.
