The Supreme Court on Wednesday has taken notice of the suspension of Additional Director FIA Zafar Qurashi and transfer of other four officials who were directly attached to National Insurance Company Limited (NICL) financial scam investigation.
In this connection, Attorney General for Pakistan (AGP) Maulvi Anwarul Haq was directed to place on record orders, passed by Director General FIA for transfer of four officers - FIA Deputy Director Javed Hussain, two Assistant Directors Muhammad Ahmed and Khalid Anees, and one Inspector Muhammad Sarwar. The AGP was also asked to produce suspension notification of Qureshi whereas former ADG FIA was also summoned to appear before the court on Thursday (today).
The notice to AGP was issued on the reports, pertaining to transfer of four FIA officials as well as suspension of Zafar Qureshi investigating NICL scam, were published in various newspapers of the country on July 03 to 5, 2011. Recently, a three-member bench comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Tariq Pervaiz and Justice Amir Hani Muslim while hearing a suo motu case regarding violation of Public Procurement Rules, 2004, which caused loss of billions of rupees to public exchequer by NICL, on July 01, 2011 had suspended the notification issued for transferring Zafar Qureshi working on NICL financial scam.
In its orders, the Court had also asked the Director General FIA to provide full assistance to Zafar Qureshi for carrying out investigation of the cases registered at Lahore in connection with NICL scam. It is worth mentioning that SC on July 1 restored Zafar Qureshi to continue investigation in the multi-billion scam in NICL. The government however, reportedly on July 5 suspended Zafar Qurashi, Additional Director General FIA, within 72 hours of his reinstatement.
