Taiwan stocks higher

Taiwan stocks ended up 0.4 percent at a two-week closing high on Monday, with smartphone maker HTC Corp up 4.46 percent after record monthly sales in June. The main TAIEX index was up 34.9 points at 8,774.72, after opening up 0.71 percent. Fund managers said Taiwan shares had bottomed out and the main share index may test 9,000 points this month as worries over the US economy and Europe's debt woes have eased and sentiment for the third quarter had improved.
Carmakers were the top gainers, up 3.84 percent. Electronics shares rose 0.29 percent, but financial shares erased early gains and dropped 0.12 percent.
