Anti Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) on Saturday claimed to have arrested the abductors and recovered all three bankers, who were kidnapped on May 30, 2011 from Steel Town area. According to details, a team headed by SSP Farooq Awan on a tip-off conducted a raid in Shah Belo area Sukkur and recovered all three bankers including two directors of SBP on Saturday.
He said the Sukkur police, Rangers' personnel and other spy agencies provided assistance in this operation. He said the abductors, contacting the families of the kidnapped bankers, demanded Rs 30 million each or a total ransom of Rs 90 million for their release.
He said the team of AVCC had also arrested all three kidnappers namely Mehboob Chandio, Zameer Chandio and Rasheed Narejo after a brief encounter. Awan alleged that the arrested persons had also committed several crimes in interior Sindh and Karachi and added the Sindh government has also announced a bounty of Rs 0.5 million on Narejo.
Needless to mention, three bankers Najam Saqib, additional director of SBP, Nadeem, SBP marketing manager and Asif Shahzad, a senior vice president of a private bank were kidnapped on May 30 when they were returning after having dinner at a club.
The car of the bankers was later found from the bushes near Pakistan Steel Mills the next day. A case 112/11 was registered at Bin Qasim police station on the complaint of Saqib's brother Asif and later the case was transferred to AVCU for further investigation. Moreover, he said the bankers, who were on their way to Karachi, would be meeting their families after completing all legal formalities.
