The most-active August copper contract on the Shanghai Futures Exchange rose 0.8 percent to 67,700 yuan per tonne on Tuesday. Prompt prices in Shanghai continue to hold their premium to the third month - currently around 900 yuan - potentially encouraging some metal to enter China from the international market.
The tight supply of prompt material was partly due to a slowdown in China's refined copper output in May to 439,000 tonnes, from 454,000 tonnes in April, data from the National Bureau of Statistics showed on Tuesday.
