The Capital Police have busted a gang of car thieves and recovered seven stolen cars from them besides arresting eight thieves and car receivers. The Anti-Car Lifting Cell (ACLC) of Islamabad Police arrested eight persons including car receivers and auto-thieves after recovery of seven stolen cars, said Naeem Iqbal, spokesman of Capital Police on Friday.
He said that taking stock of the increasing incidents of car theft, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad, Wajid Ali Durrani, directed the officers for effective measures to curb car-lifting incidents. Following the directions from Capital Police Chief, SSP Islamabad, Tahir Alam, constituted a special team under the supervision of DSP ACLC Abdul Razaq.
The team succeeded in arresting seven persons including car receivers and auto-thieves while seven cars were also recovered from them. The recovered cars bear the registration number IDS-9469, LEA-4736, MN-1063, LXY-1675, RIA-3077, IDL-6618 and NU-212. The car receivers have been identified as Shaukat Ali, Moazam Ali Ajeer Khan and Waseem and they were arrested from the area of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. Efforts are underway to shift them from jail at Charasadda and Peshawar. Similarly, four auto-thieves have been arrested and these car thieves have been identified as Tariq, Zahid Gul, Ameer Jan and Sabia Naz. SSP Islamabad Tahir Alam Khan appreciated the performance of Anti-Car Lifting Cell police and announced cash reward for the team.
