Representative assemblies will complete their full term and there will be no delay in elections, Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif said while speaking to the media in London on Thursday.

He said that all the promises, which deposed Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif had made, were being fulfilled and that the government had completed 70 percent of its agenda, local media reported. “The situation in Pakistan is stable currently,” Asif added.

He further said that he had not spoken to National Assembly speaker Ayaz Sadiq but that the parliament had its own pressures. However, he said, that the elections would be held as scheduled.

Asif’s comments came after speaker Ayaz Sadiq’s expressed his concern on Wednesday that he does not see the assemblies completing their full tenure.

During a talk show, Sadiq had said that whatever was happening now had never been witnessed before and that instead of focusing on personal benefits, everyone should be focusing on national interest. Sadiq was referring to the political situation of Pakistan after the Faizabad Interchange sit-in and the Model Town report, which had been published.

According to local media reports, sources have revealed that the deposed PM, Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif, PM Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Asif will hold a meeting today in London.
