Chandio called back for taking oath: Judicial Commission meeting delayed
The meeting of the Judicial Commission was delayed as the newly nominated Law Minister Maula Bux Chandio came to attend the meeting without taking oath.The commission, which was scheduled to discuss the issue of additional judges of Lahore and Balochistan high courts with Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry in the chair, deferred the meeting till Aril 23.
The commission was due to give its decision regarding appointment of new judges and confirmation of ad hoc judges. The agenda will be taken up again in the next meeting. Under the law, any decision taken by the commission in the absence of any of its members will stand ineffective.
Chandio, who was nominated as the law minister after the resignation of Babar Awan, went to the Supreme Court to attend the Judicial Commission meeting without taking oath of office. He was told that he could not attend the meeting unless he has taken oath. The nominated law minister was asked to take oath before attending the meeting. Later, talking to media, Chandio said he came to attend the meeting but was called back for taking oath. He said after taking oath of law minister, he would return to attend the meeting.
