Despite intermittent rain, a large number of families on Sunday visited the Islamabad Expo 2011 organised by Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry (WCCI) here at Jinnah Convention Center.
A large number of stalls were established inside and outside building of the Convention Center, which attracted hundreds of families. Although every kind of stuff was available during the exhibition but sale of hand-made products remained on its peak.
Women thronged at the clothes' stalls while the prices of clothes ranged between Rs 700-7000 while on some stalls clothes with embroidery were being sold till Rs 13,000. The most encouraging aspect of the exhibition was provision of platform to those institutions, who can not afford heavy rents of shops.
Rozina, who runs an NGO said that things being displayed at the exhibition were all homemade. She said that members of her NGO used to stitch clothes at home, which were being offered for sale. She said although prices of these clothes and paintings were a little high but she was of the view that visitors of such exhibitions could afford the prices.
Another group of women, who were also associated with an NGO said that they were selling all homemade products including fans, mirrors and same kind of other stuff. They said that prices of their products range between Rs 700-1800 per piece. They said that they were running a center where training is provided to women to make them skilful.
On a stall of clothes, a stallholder said he was running a shop in Rawalpindi. He said that every kind of stuff was available on his stall from mobile cover to embroidery work clothes. He said that all stuff had been brought from Tharparkar, which was being displayed in the exhibition. He said that there was no difference of prices in the exhibition.
Sanam, who had come alongwith her family said that it was a great day for her as she could purchase variety of things, besides entertainment. She said that there was need to invite all women entrepreneurs across country so that maximum products may be available. She said that women who were participating in the exhibition were very brave who were equally contributing to improve national economy as well as supporting their families.
Fazal-ur-Rehman who was visiting with his family said that his children had forced him to visit the exhibition. He said that there was enough stuff for women and children. He said that such kind of exhibitions provide opportunities both for the businessmen and the visitors to buy and sell variety of things under one roof. He said that government should encourage the women business entrepreneurs, especially those who were financially weak.
