In occupied Kashmir, veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Geelani, has said that India is trying to suppress Kashmiris' liberation struggle through its troops, police and agents.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Syed Ali Geelani visited the residence of prominent martyred Kashmiri religious scholar and President of Jamiat-e-Ahlihadith, Maulana Showkat Ahmad Shah, at Lal Bazar in occupied Srinagar and condoled with the bereaved family. Addressing a gathering on the occasion, he strongly condemned Maulana Showkat's assassination and termed it as inhuman act.
The veteran Hurriyet leader pointed out that the occupation authorities had detained a large number of innocent Kashmiris under the draconian laws like Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) and Public Safety Act (PSA). The use of brute tactics by the authorities cannot prevent Kashmiris from continuing the just struggle for securing their inalienable right to self-determination, he maintained.
Syed Ali Geelani appealed the Kashmiri people to keep unity among their ranks to take the ongoing peaceful movement to its logical conclusion.
