Taj Haider meets JI leaders

Published Updated

Secretary General, Pakistan People's Party Sindh, Taj Haider visited Idara-e-Noor-e-Haq, the Jamaat-e-Islami office in the city on Sunday and held meeting with chief of JI Karachi Muhammad Hussain Mehnati and other leaders.
Accompanied by PPP Karachi president Najmi Alam and political advisor to Sindh Chief Minister, Rashid Rabbani, Taj Haider discussed law and order situation in the city, ongoing census process and other issues with JI leaders. The meeting continued for several hours during which Nasrullah Shajeeh, Birjees Ahmed, Muslim Pervez and other JI leaders were also present.
Taj Haider later talking to media said PPP has launched contacts with political parties to strengthen the political process and devise joint strategy for bringing an end to extortion culture and provide security to the citizens.
He said promoting civilised political culture was need of the hour and added that despite ideological differences the PPP had run election campaign jointly with JI in 2001. "We have started contacts as we realised that the contacts with political parties had decreased and now we want to fill the gap. Muhammad Hussain Mehnati on this occasion said the law and order situation, target killings and extortion were the biggest problems and added that they made it clear on Taj Haider to restore law and order instead of following the policy of reconciliation.
He said the census has started but the entire process in Karachi has become hostage. If the government did not check it, the house-listing process would be a bogus process, he added.
