Co-Chairman Pakistan People's Party President Asif Ali Zardari has said that manifesto of a dynamic political party like the PPP should be a living and vibrant document that responds to the aspirations of the largest number of people on one hand, and breaks new ground to lead the people to a glorious future in a harmonious federation, on the other.
This he said while addressing the maiden meeting of the recently formed PPP Manifesto Committee. Those who attended the meeting included Fauzia Habib, MNA, Co-ordinator, Senator Dr Babar Awan, Minister for Law & Justice, Makhdoom Shahabuddin, Minister for Textile, Senator Jahangir Bader, Senator Waqar Ahmad Khan, Senator Maula Bux Chandio, Senator Sardar Ali Khan, Nazar Muhammad Gondal, MNA, Begum Shahnaz Wazir Ali, MNA, Ms Sherry Rehman, MNA, Taj Haider, Hidayatullah Pirzada, Chaudhry Abdul Majeed, Ghulam Nabi, Rukhsana Bangash, Professor Ijaz Hassan and Farhatullah Babar.
Briefing journalists, President spokesperson Farhatullah Babar said that the president also called for a detailed report on what was promised in the 2008 election manifesto and to what extent those promises had been fulfilled during the last three years. "It is time to take stock of the performance in the light of the promises made," he said. President Zardari said that while it was important to give a clear cut direction to the nation on what the party intended to achieve in a given time frame, it was no less important to have introspection and evaluate the performance in the face of promises made.
The Co-Chairman tasked the committee to immediately prepare a comparative statement showing the performance versus the promises. Thereafter, the Committee should identify promises that were made in the 2008 manifesto but have not yet been fulfilled, cite the reasons for not fulfilling those promises and recommend strategy to implement the unfulfilled pledges.-PR
