Rates mixed as activity improves on grain market

Trading activity improved on the grain market on Thursday as some needy buyers entered the arena to meet their urgent needs, dealers said. On the cereal side makai low type lost Rs 65 to Rs 2875 while the best type did not show any change due to balanced demand and supply, wheat old Bardan quoted higher at Rs 2410-2415, wheat new Bardan followed the same pattern was registered at Rs 2425-2430.
Gur low type fell sharply by Rs 100 to Rs 5200 while the good variety was down by Rs 200 to Rs 6200, other items maintained the previous levels, they said. On the seed side cottonseeds oilcake with bag low type lost Rs 40 to Rs to Rs 1350 while the best type shed Rs 13 to Rs 1400, castorseed Nawabshah gained Rs 50 to Rs 2175-2200, Dadulane rose by Rs 100 to Rs 1950-2000, rapeseeds Mirpurlane followed the same patter, rising by Rs 125 to Rs 2175-2200 and rapeseeds cake also appreciated by Rs 10 to Rs 870-875, they said. On the rice sector prices maintained overnight levels despite the higher demand by importers as country exported nearly 2.73 million tonnes of rice in the first nine months of the current fiscal year, they said.
