All Model Customs Collectorates (MCCs) of North Region have made a total of 145 seizures during March 2011 by conducting anti-smuggling activities involving Rs 229 million as value of the seized goods compared to 110 cases involving Rs 158 million during February 2011.
Sources told Business Recorder here on Monday that the Chief Collector of Customs (North) has submitted latest performance on the anti-smuggling activities of the collectorates falling within the jurisdiction of Collector North. It covered Model Customs Collectorate Peshawar, MCC Faisalabad, MCC Lahore, MCC Sambrial, MCC Islamabad and MCC Multan. It revealed that the MCCs have made 145 seizures of different goods involving Rs 229 million as value of the seized goods during the period under review. Sources said that the performance of the MCCs would help the FBR in achieving targets of the Anti Smuggling Organisations in the field formations.
They said that special targets were assigned to the Anti Smuggling Organisation operating in each Collectorate in the region in respect of smuggled vehicles and contraband goods, respectively. It was pointed out that accelerating the anti smuggling activities will help in exceeding the over-all revenue targets by timely disposal of confiscated vehicles/goods.
The Chief Collector of Customs has directed all the Collectors of Customs to re-organise the Anti Smuggling Organisation by posting best professional staff and the Collectors present in the meeting agreed to achieve the target in respect of anti-smuggling activities by June 30, 2011.
