ITP driving licence service resumes operation

After a two-month long row between Finance Ministry and Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) the driving license service was resumed in Federal Capital with a new fee structure for different categories. The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) had raised the issue of fee structure and mode of payment of the driving licenses in Islamabad and directed the government to ensure the payment of fee in proper way.
Now the matters between Finance Ministry and ITP were settled and it was decided to raise the fee of driving license and resume the process of issuing the licenses. Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Wajid Ali Durrani formally inaugurated resumption of driving license here on Saturday. SSP (Traffic) Dr Moeen Masood, SP Mir Vais Niaz and other police officials were also present on the occasion.
The IGP Islamabad said that utmost efforts had been made to facilitate license seekers through the new process, which was streamlined after the elaborate research by the authorities. He said that fee has been only increased up to Rs 100 due to the surge in the prices of raw material.
Wajid Ali said that fee would be deposited in any branch of National Bank of Pakistan Islamabad under the relevant Head of Accounts allocated by Ministry of Finance as earlier tickets were pasted on the driving license forms. He said that negotiations were underway with NBP authorities to open fee collection booth in the vicinity of ITP Headquarters.
The IGP said that notification of new fee structure had been issued and matter had been taken up with Ministry of Finance for opening of bank collection booth here at traffic office. Under the new fee structure, fee for learner permit valid for six months (M. Cycle or Car/Jeep or LTV or HTV) is Rs 200, fee for issue of driving license (M. Cycle or Car/Jeep or LTV or HTV or PSV) is Rs 600, fee for issue of driving license on urgent basis is Rs 1000 while Rs 25 would be paid for verification of CNIC by Nadra.
Similarly, fee for renewal of driving license, within 30 day (Conversion, Duplicate/Addition) is Rs 500, fee for renewal of learners permit is Rs 100, fee for renewal of license after thirty days, but within one year from the date of expiry of license is Rs 700, fee for renewal after one year within three years from the date of expiry of the license is Rs 1,000. Similarly, fee for renewal of license after three years, but within seven years from the date of expiry of license is Rs 2000.
As per the notification, fee for duplicate license, conversion and addition (endorsement) is Rs 600, urgent renewal fee excluding prescribed fee for renewal is Rs 400. In case of first time suspension under section 16 and 18 of MVO 1965 of driving license, restoration will be Rs 5,000 and fee will be Rs 10,000 in case of restoration after second time suspension. The license shall not be restored after third time cancellation. The SSP (Traffic) Dr Moeen Masood said that all codal formalities had been observed in the new licensing system and process would be further streamlined after its implementation. He said the new licensing system was now open for public and every possible effort would be made to ensure convenience to the license seekers.
