KARACHI: The American Heart Association (AHA) has presented "Paul Dudley White International Science Team Award" to five Pakistani scientists for presenting a high ranked poster at the scientific session 2017 held in California, says an announcement here on Monday.

Three scholars out of the total are directly from Panjwani Center for Molecular Medicine and Drug Research (PCMD), University of Karachi, said a senior official of International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), University of Karachi.

The names of these PCMD scientists include Associate Professor Dr. Asmat Salim, Dr. Irfan Khan and Rida-e- Maria Qazi, while Dr. Kanwal Haneef and Dr. Nadia Naeem, who have done their Ph.D. at the PCMD under Dr. Asmat Salim, are from National Center for Proteomics, University of Karachi, and Dow University of Health Sciences, Ojha Campus, Karachi respectively, he said.

In an official letter, the American Heart Association informed the team of scientists that AHA selected the five Pakistani scientists as an `AHA 2017 Paul Dudley White International Scholars'.

He said that this award recognized Pakistani authors with the highest ranked abstract from Pakistan at the scientific session 2017 held in California.

He maintained that Dr. Asmat Salim received this letter from the American association because she was the presenting-author on the abstracts.

It was also pointed out that as one of the founders of the American Heart Association; Paul Dudley White was also a champion for global cardiovascular health strategies. Your stellar work chosen by your peers reflects Dr. White's vision for global excellence in cardiovascular science and medicine.

The esteemed Paul Dudley White Award is named in honor of one of Boston's most revered cardiologists, Dr. Paul Dudley White, who was a founding father of the American Heart Association.

This award epitomizes the organization's most prestigious tribute. The award is bestowed annually to a Massachusetts physician dedicated to cardiovascular or stroke care.

Karachi University Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ajmal Khan, ICCBS Patron-in-Chief Prof. Atta-ur Rahman, and Director ICCBS Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary have congratulated the scholars, and said that their achievement was an honor not only for the University but also for the nation.
