Published Updated

Seoul shares rose on Thursday boosted by solid gains in insurers and airlines, but refiners retreated on worries they could face financial penalties. The Korea Composite Stock Price Index ended up 0.73 percent at 2,106.70 points on its last trading day of the month, rising for a sixth straight session and posting an 8.6 percent gain for March.

Foreign investors were buyers of a net 698.2 billion Korean won ($632.7 mln) worth of stocks, the biggest daily purchase in more than four months. It marked the 12th consecutive session of foreign buying, the longest such streak since October 2010.
Steelmakers fell on what analysts said was market talk product price increases could be delayed. POSCO ended down 1.8 percent and Hyundai Steel Co shed 2.1 percent.
