London copper rose half a percent on Thursday, but the market would need to rally more than 2 percent to avoid its first quarterly loss since June 2010, after three months of volatile trading recently on geopolitical and demand concerns. The most-active copper futures contract on the Shanghai Futures Exchange fell 0.8 percent to 70,700 yuan.
Chinese markets are closed on Monday and Tuesday next week for Tomb Sweeping Day.
