As many as 110 industrial units, established at the Sundar Industrial Estate (SIE) have curtailed their production mainly because of 12-hour unannounced and unscheduled power cuts to the estate causing a loss of millions of rupees to the national exchequer.
The Chief Executive Officer, Punjab Industrial Estates, Major General Javed Iqbal (Retd) expressed his concern over the long duration of power load-shedding during a meeting with the industrialists who briefed him about their problems due to electricity shortage.
The industrialists also briefed the PIE Chief Executive Officer that the power cut was not only hurting the production process but also increasing unemployment, as the industries have now been restricted to only single shift rather than running their factories in three shifts in a day. He urged the authorities concerned to take immediate remedial measures for the smooth running of industries at the Sundar Industrial Estate.
